Description

Since 2010, at the University of Duisburg-Essen, young people from non-academic families with and without a migrant background have been trained in the qualification phase before graduation, i.e. from grade 11 (G8) or 12 (G9), in the transition and finding phase and in their studies financially supported and personally accompanied.

Chance hoch 2 would like to support schoolchildren whose potential has not yet been exhausted for a wide variety of reasons, young people who are committed but have so far had too few opportunities and resources to pursue their interests and who would like to study, but with competent external support need.

The aim of the program for educational advancers is to increase the proportion of high school graduates and university graduates from families without academic experience, particularly at the University of Duisburg-Essen, but also at other universities in the Ruhr area.

Chance to the power of 2 offers two chances:

During school time, the participants receive non-material support through mentoring, seminars that match their school career and personal development, coaching, participation in university and teaching events, remedial classes, and individual advice on study and career choice. In addition, there is financial support in the form of an education allowance of 50 euros per month. The mentoring is carried out in small groups by students from the University of Duisburg-Essen. In addition, the parents / legal guardians are involved in the program through information events.

If, after successfully completing the Chance hoch 2 student program, the participants decide to study at the University of Duisburg-Essen or within the University Alliance Ruhr, they will receive further support, especially in the initial phase and during their studies, e.g. through workshops in the areas of scientific work , Exam preparation, stress management, stays abroad and career planning. Personal advice and support as well as individual coaching are further components of the student program. In addition, the participants receive a scholarship of 300 euros per month in the first year of study.
